The School of Human Evolution and Social Change undergraduate advisors are committed to making our students' educational experience the best it can be. They help design educational plans so students from all our majors can connect to co-curricular opportunities and reach their academic goals.
Undergraduates can schedule an advising appointment online. Advising appointments are primarily via Zoom.
Current Mountain Standard Time in Tempe, Arizona
- Appointments are scheduled no more than two weeks in advance.
- If there are no appointments available in the system check back the next day, when more times may open up.
- A limited number of in-person appointments are available each week on the Tempe campus.
- Advisors cannot dial out to International numbers.
- Graduate students should visit our graduate advising page.
- Our advising offices are located in the SHESC building. Students should check in at the main office in Room 233 for in-person appointments.
First Year Tempe campus students
First year students on the Tempe campus receive advising support in Armstrong Hall.
Virtual drop-in advising
Drop-in advising for the fall 2024 semester begins on Tuesday, August 13, and will occur weekly through Thursday, December 12.
Drop-ins will be cancelled on Wednesday, December 11.
Drop-in advising for the spring 2025 semester begins on Tuesday, January 7, and will occur weekly through Thursday, May 8.
SHESC drop-in advising takes place over the phone. You may check in during the following times:
Tuesdays - 9 a.m. - noon
Wednesdays - Noon - 3 p.m.
Thursdays - 1 - 4 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is recommended that you speak with an advisor at least once a semester.
Expect your advisor to:
- Help you make informed decisions regarding your educational plans and goals.
- Clarify requirements, policies and procedures.
- Evaluate transcripts to show how credits apply toward degree requirements.
- Help track progress toward graduation.
- Provide referrals when appropriate.
Your advisor will expect you to:
- Keep your scheduled appointment and show up on time.
- Take ownership of your academic career.
- Become familiar with your degree requirements.
- Review your DARS audit.
- Register for classes as soon as possible.
- Keep your address and phone number current with the University.
If you are placed on academic probation you will not be able to change your schedule or register for classes until you have been cleared by your advisor.

The purpose of the junior check-in appointment is to make sure that you are on-track to graduate and to talk about your plans after graduation. How do you want your resume or CV to look when you graduate? What types of experiences (leadership, research, study abroad, etc.) will be on your resume?
